Best Cordless Circular Saw Review

Cutting Wood: We all do it, even though some of us need to cut wood more often than others. Whether you are a homeowner, a contractor or a carpenter, you likely have some tool you use to cut wood in a straight line, but you do not know what you are missing until you buy a cordless circular saw.

Giving people the ability to cut wood anywhere was once a pipe dream 100 years ago. Now thanks to cordless circular saws, we can cut wood and lumber indoors, outdoors and any place we need to be, without the need of an electrical power outlet. These saws are also easy to use, lightweight and do not require a table or bench.

In this review, we will show you to ten amazing cordless circular saws from brands that include Black + Decker, DeWalt, and Milwaukee. They have some great features, in addition to things that we feel they need to improve upon. Here, it is our job to determine for you which is the best cordless circular saw to buy.

10 Best Cordless Circular Saws – Reviews

1. DEWALT DC390B 6-1/2-Inch 18-Volt Cordless

DeWalt offers us two cordless circular saws. As always, they are made with trademark honey yellow bodies. This saw, in particular, is exceptionally small, with a blade that is 6 and a half inches in diameter.

The blade can spin up to 3700 RPM (revolutions per minute) for straight-up fast rip and cross cuts. Shing! One piece of wood becomes two. The bevel can adjust from zero to 50 degrees so that you can cut many other applications aside from standard wood boards and lumber.

Inside the saw is a fan that cools the motor as it runs, so that the motor doesn’t overheat. This is important so that the motor doesn’t wear out over time, making the saw last longer than normal; usually even a few years longer.

The durability of this cordless circular saw is further enforced thanks to a shoe and upper guard made of magnesium.

Unfortunately, all that this saw comes with is the saw itself. That means no batteries, charging stations or other accessories are included. On the bright side, if you have batteries that you still want to use, you will not need to buy a whole new set, and you can spend less to get this, instead. It is unbelievably affordable, even if it’s the tool itself.

The purchase of this circular band saw comes with some-day money back guarantee. If you are not satisfied with the saw within the first three months, you can return it and receive a full refund. Unfortunately, there is no warranty to be found, here.

Strengths:

  • Has a high RPM.
  • Is affordable.
  • Includes a fan for the motor.
  • Has an adjustable bevel.
  • Is small and compact.

Weaknesses:

  • Does not include a warranty.

2. BLACK+DECKER BDCCS20B 20-volt Max

The next cordless circular saw is brought to us by Black + Decker. It comes in burnt orange and black color scheme. The circular blade that you get with this saw is 5 and a half inches in diameter. This is also a compact circular saw, and frankly, it is more affordable than DeWalt’s. We can honestly say that this is also a simpler circular saw in comparison.

We do not have an RPM reading for this saw, but it claims to really bring the torque so that each straight and cross cut is quick and effortless.

You can easily adjust the bevel to detents that are at 45 and 90 degrees. If you need to make horizontal or diagonal cuts, this is a great tool to do this with, without having to turn yourself in a certain direction.

Like DeWalt’s circular saw, all you get is the saw itself. The battery and battery chargers are sold separately. This saw takes 20-volt lithium-ion batteries that you can recharge once their power is depleted.

At least Black + Decker is more generous when it comes to warranties. You get two years to see if it is a working, error-free tool. If you find an error, you are eligible to get a free replacement.

The one flaw with this circular saw is that it quickly jams or binds. We have had to turn it off and clean the blade before restarting a number of times. It is a great tool, but we wish that this did not happen as often.

Strengths:

  • Is affordable.
  • Has an adjustable bevel.
  • Is small and compact.

Weaknesses:

  • Can quickly jam up.

3. Milwaukee M18 2630-20 18 Volt Lithium-Ion

Milwaukee has a suped-up version of the cordless circular saw, in it’s fire engine red color. This is a heavier saw, but at the same time, it also seems like a safer saw to use and includes several onboard tools to help out in your cuts. The blade is 6 and a half inches in diameter.

For starters, there is some serious technology built into this saw. Once you make your cut, the blade will instantly stop spinning so that there is no danger or recklessness that is taking place. It also takes no time at all for the blade to stop, whereas, with traditional circular saws, the blade needs time to slow down to a stop.

You can set the depth to 1 and a half inches, and you can set the level up to 45 degrees. If you want to make a diagonal cut, you can very well do so with this cordless circular saw.

The soft grip handle is meant to give your hand and fingers the utmost of comfort to compensate for the extra weight. It feels rubbery smooth, even though the weight is pretty much apparent while using the saw.

This cordless circular saw takes 18-volt lithium-ion batteries. There are six different batteries compatible with this saw, so if you already own a Milwaukee power tool, you won’t have to buy a new battery. Also if you need a lithium ion battery, it won’t be hard to find one for this saw.

The warranty for this cordless circular saw lasts for a few years. This is a great length of time for coverage, and plenty of time to see if there is anything amiss with the saw.

This saw doesn’t don’t feel and express power like how it looks. It can cut wood just fine, but if it’s not cutting wood effortlessly, the saw will die faster rather than later. We were expecting it to work like DeWalt’s saw, to be frank.

Strengths:

  • Automatically stops when done cutting wood.
  • Is compatible with many batteries.
  • Has a comfortable grip.
  • Has an adjustable bevel.

Weaknesses:

  • Lacks power.

4. Makita XSS02Z 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless

The power tools gods chose blue-green for Makita’s products. Like most of the other cordless circular saws, thus far, this one has a circular blade that is six and a half inches in diameter. So far, this is the most expensive circular cordless saw.

This cordless circular saw is power by a motor that was built from the ground up by Makita themselves. It powers the blade to spin at up to 3700 RPM for swift cuts and rips right through wood and lumber.

This is a professionally-made cordless circular saw that ensures smooth, straight cuts along and against flat, wooden boards thanks to its precision machine base. You can also get a comfortable experience with a soft, rubber grip on the handle. The bevel is also customizable for up to 50 degrees. Make horizontal, diagonal or slanted cuts with no problem.

This saw accept one of multiple 18-volt lithium ion batteries exclusively for Makita products. When you have a battery attached, this circular saw only weighs 7.3 pounds. It is incredibly light in weight, despite that it feels and looks like a professional tool for cutting wood.

Owners of this cordless circular saw enjoy a limited warranty. Under the warranty, any manufacturer defects will be covered, and your tool can be eligible for a free repair or replacement, which is definitely not a bad thing to have.

The problem with this circular saw stems from the batteries. Firstly, we feel that they are overpriced. If you have Makita lithium-ion batteries already, consider yourself lucky. Secondly, these batteries do not last very long before you have to charge them up again. This can be considered a nuisance if you are looking to use this circular saw for large projects.

Strengths:

  • Is compatible with many batteries.
  • Has a comfortable grip.
  • Has an adjustable bevel.
  • Is lightweight.
  • Has a high RPM.

Weaknesses:

  • Batteries drain fast.

5. PORTER-CABLE PCC660B 20V Max Lithium Bare

Porter-Cable provides us with this nice, rugged looking circular saw with a light and dark grey color scheme. This saw weighs at 6.5 pounds; looks professional, but is surprisingly light. The six-and-a-half inch blade that this saw comes with can spin up to 4000 RPM, the largest RPM thus far from a professional company in this review. It feels like you’re cutting butter, and it feels rather good.

This circular saw from Porter-Cable comes with a beveling shoe, which allows the user to move the saw forward and it is cutting wood and change direction for up to 50 degrees at a time.

The handle is ergonomically designed and it feels smooth to hold. The underside of the handle has a nice, textured grip so that it is guaranteed to stay in your hands, and any risks are brought to a minimum. You will certainly appreciate the minimal fatigue that comes with working with this Porter-Cable saw.

You will have to buy 20-Volt lithium-ion batteries separately. All Porter-Cable Max lithium ion batteries are compatible with this saw. If you already own a Porter-Cable product with a lithium-ion battery already, consider yourself spared to have to go to buy that as well.

With this purchase of this saw from Porter-Cable, you get a warranty that lasts for a few years. This is a decent length for a saw of the price that this one goes for.

This is a great tool for light, occasionally work. What bogs it down, however, is that it will quickly drain battery life, as the Makita saw. If you have a whole stack of wooden boards that you need to cut, expect to have to recharge the battery a few good times to cut each and every board.

Strengths:

  • Can change direction mid-cut.
  • Is compatible with many batteries.
  • Has a comfortable grip.
  • Has an adjustable bevel.
  • Is lightweight.
  • Has a high RPM.

Weaknesses:

  • Batteries drain fast.

6. Rateim Compact Cordless Lithium-Ion Circular Saw

This next circular saw comes from a lesser-known company known as Rateim. It is the most industrial-looking portable saw that we have seen yet, in a yellow and black body.

This cordless circular saw comes with many onboard accessories, including a guide ruler, Allen key, laser switch, and aluminum shoe. They really added a bunch of extras that the consumer will truly appreciate.

The bevel can be adjusted for up to 45 degrees, which means that you can either make straight cuts, cross cuts or any angled cut in between.

This circular saw accepts lithium-ion batteries. The batteries charge for just up to an hour so that you can get to cutting once again. The handle is made of over-molded rubber for a nice, squishy feel. It feels firm in addition to soft and comfortable, so you know it’s a strong grip that you want to hold for long periods of time.

This saw is powered by a 20-volt motor, and the six-and-a-half-inch blade can spin up to a crazy fast 7000 RPM. Despite all this power, the blade only weighs six pounds. It’s essentially light and powerful saw with a slew of neat extras.

This cordless circular saw comes with a few year warranties, which is a decent amount of time. If a defect or error presents itself, your saw can be eligible for a repair or replacement at no cost to you.

Despite all that is presented here, we just don’t have a good feeling about this circular saw. It feels flimsy, it’s loud and at 7000 RPM, we feel that something just might go wrong, here, whether the motor overheats or the blade comes free.

Strengths:

  • Has a comfortable grip.
  • Adjustable bevel.
  • Has a laser guide.
  • Is lightweight.
  • Has a high RPM.

Weaknesses:

  • Made of questionable quality

7. DEWALT DCS575B FLEXVOLT 60V MAX Lithium-Ion

This next cordless circular saw is from DeWalt, from their Flexvolt line of products. This is by far the most expensive circular saw that you will find, and it doesn’t even come with batteries or a charger, at that.

With a circular blade over seven inches in diameter, it can cut a lot in just a short time. It is also backed up with an incredible 5800 RPM, thanks to the brushless motor. With DeWalt, there is definitely no caveat to high power, besides price, of course.

You can adjust the level at up to 57 degrees, and the saw will snap in place at 45 degrees and 22.5 degrees. Like Makita, this circular saw also has an electronic brake. How this one works, however, is that the blade automatically stops once you release the trigger.

With a Flexvolt battery, this saw can make on estimate 339 cuts per charge, so it definitely sounds promising to use for workers who cut wood for a living. This saw will only work with Flexvolt batteries, sold separately.

This circular saw comes with a solid, a few-year warranty, which is normal for most DeWalt products. Although with DeWalt, you shouldn’t have to worry about subpar quality or defects all that much.

The one flaw we have come across is that this is the heaviest saw thus far in this review. It works like a premium quality product, but we have noticed that our work was somewhat in slow motion while using this circular saw. We certainly do not want to take a long time with our wood-cutting projects.

Strengths:

  • Has a large blade.
  • Has a high RPM.
  • Long battery life.
  • as an adjustable bevel.

Weaknesses:

  • Weighs a lot.
  • costs a lot of money.

8. VonHaus 20V MAX Cordless Circular Saw

VonHaus provides us with this next circular saw, in a grey and orange body. The blade is a standard blade that is 6.5 inches in diameter. Unlike the other circular saws, a battery and charger both are included.

This cordless circular saw comes with a premium high spec motor that delivers 3800 RPM. The motor purrs beautifully and doesn’t sound bad at all. The bevel can be adjusted for 90 and 45-degree cuts.

The battery included only takes around 75 minutes to charge from zero to 100 percent. It is a lithium-ion battery that is grey and electric blue in color. The handle is housed with an ergonomic rubber grip that your hand wraps around like a glove. You definitely won’t have to worry about losing grip or control with all of your cuts.

The one big shocker here is that we do not have any warranty information. If we see a problem with this cordless circular saw, we will not know where to turn to, and that is pretty disappointing, considering the other brands offer warranties.

Strengths:

  • Comes with a battery and charger.
  • Has a high RPM.
  • This unit has a comfortable grip.
  • Has an adjustable bevel.

Weaknesses:

  • Does not include a warranty.

9. Bosch 1661K-RT 14.4V Cordless 5-3/8-in

This next circular saw is in a dark greenish blue shell, which many experts would automatically recognize as a Bosch. Not only is a battery and charger includes, but also a carrying case. This jacks up the price of the saw, however.

The size of the blase is 5 ⅜ inches in diameter, and the motor gives it a spin at about 3600 RPM.

The level of this cordless circular saw can be set at up to 50 degrees. You can either make straight cuts, crosscuts or even customized cuts thanks to the freedom of this circular saw.

The footplate is made of steel, which allows you to cut in straight lines thanks to the weight that it adds to the overall saw. This saw weighs ten pounds overall, and it feels beefy without feeling too heavy. Included with this circular saw is a limited-year warranty. We wished it were for longer, but at least one is better than zero.

The steel plate really slows this saw down, as the added weight creates a noticeable sense of friction. You really need to put some effort into each cut so that you do not take a long time using this circular saw.

Strengths:

  • Comes with a battery and charger.
  • Has a comfortable grip.
  • Has an adjustable bevel

Weaknesses:

  • Moves very slowly.

10. Ryobi P506 One+ Lithium Ion 18V 5 1/2 Inch

Ryobi is the maker of this last cordless circular saw. Weighing at only five pounds, this is the lightest circular saw in this article.

The circular blade is small, being five-and-a-half inches in diameter. However, it spins really fast at 4700 RPM. The handle is a nice, textured rubber grip so that it feels soft, comfortable and firm as your hand wraps around it.

This saw is compatible with many different Ryobi brand batteries, so if you own other Ryobi power tools, you do not need to buy a new one. This Ryobi saw features a laser sights that allows you to see the line before you cut it. Laser sights are wonderful guides that are always welcome in any power tool nowadays.

You can adjust the angle of this circular saw from zero to 50 degrees, so practically you have the freedom to cut wood from just about any angle.

This saw, however, is a refurbished saw. That means it is previously used and was once junk before somebody fixed it. Refurbished products are known for being cheaper to buy, but clearly, you do not expect them to last very long.

Strengths:

  • Has a laser guide.
  • High RPM.
  • Comfortable grip.
  • Has an adjustable bevel.
  • Is lightweight.

Weaknesses:

  • Is a refurbished saw.

Final Verdict

For our choice for the best cordless circular saw, we have chosen the DEWALT DCS575B FLEXVOLT 60V MAX Lithium-Ion Brushless 7 1/4″ Circular Saw.

DeWalt is committed to excellence, and it definitely shows with this circular saw in particular. This is a professionally well done saw, and while it may not be the most portable of cordless saws, it succeeds in flying colors with what it does. Long battery life, electronic brake, high RPM and long life are all great qualities in a cordless circular saw, which makes it the best choice for the regular woodworker. For the occasional woodworker, we suggest the Bosch 1661K-RT 14.4V Cordless 5-3/8-in Circular Saw.
